So here I am, starting a new adventure. I've just committed to run the San Diego Rock'n'Roll Marathon on June 3rd, 2007 with The Team In Training. Team In Training was started in association with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and is doing amazing things for cancer research! A few weeks ago I received a flyer in the mail and decided to attend their informational meeting. I've received several mailings over the years and this year seemed like a good time to investigate further. You see, the Team In Training combines two of my personal goals that I have on my long list of goals... the goal to run a marathon, and the goal to help and give whenever and however I can. So this is a perfect fit for me!
At the informational meeting I learned so much about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They have done so much to fight the fight against cancer as a whole, not just the blood cancers. This is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The amazing thing is that they willingly share their research with others and the knowledge that they gain is affecting other types of cancer as well.
Every 5 minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. Chances are you know someone who has been affected by this terrible illness.
As I train the team is there to help me along the way which is a huge blessing! In return I want to be a huge blessing to the Team. I have set a personal goal of raising $12,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as I prepare for the big race. If you feel in in your heart to give, I will be posting a link for you to do so. I am off to start on my journey of raising money for an amazing cause and to get into marathon running shape!!
